As our family watched him interact with the audience, we quickly saw why he’s widely regarded as the funniest Polynesian entertainer.

Pre-Dinner Activities and Cultural Fun

The fun began the moment we arrived at Chief’s Luau. We were greeted with leis, which was a warm, Hawaiian welcome, setting the atmosphere for the rest of the evening. As we sipped on tropical cocktails and tropical fruit punch, we started to feel the festive spirit take over – it was clear that this was no ordinary night out.

We learned to weave banana leaves and saw how these leaves were used for head dresses, baskets, and plates

Before the feast begins, you can try some traditional, Hawaiian, hands-on activities.

We learned how to weave with banana leaves, experienced traditional body-painted tattoos on our arms and face, snacked on fresh coconut, and participated in a hula lesson. Our family felt fully immersed in the experience and had a deeper understanding of the rich Polynesian culture that this luau celebrates.

The Imu Ceremony and Luau Feast

One of the most anticipated moments of any luau is the Imu ceremony. This traditional Hawaiian cooking method involves slow-cooking Kalua pork in an underground oven, known as the imu. The process is a time-honored tradition that not only imparts a unique smoky flavor to the pork but also serves as a cultural ritual passed down through generations. You will be invited to watch a demonstration of this special ceremony at the beginning of the evening.

The Kalua pork, with its tender, smoky goodness, is the star of the luau feast. Cooked to perfection, it’s a dish that embodies the essence of Hawaiian cuisine. But that’s just the beginning. The delicious Hawaiian luau feast you will enjoy includes a variety of traditional foods to try. You will have a rich culinary experience that goes beyond just Kalua pork. From fresh island fish to lomi-lomi salmon, the feast is a celebration of Hawaii’s diverse culinary heritage.

No luau feast would be complete without Poi, a staple dish made from taro root. We had never tried this unique and delicious side dish before. Alongside Poi, you’ll find other traditional accompaniments that round out the meal, making it a true feast for the senses.

As you indulge in the delicious spread, you’ll find that the luau experience is about more than just food; it’s a journey into the heart of Polynesian culture. Each bite tells a story, and each dish is a testament to the rich culinary traditions of the islands. (Am I making you hungry, now?)
