We’re Adam and Celine, and we travel with our three boys (16, 14, and 11). When we visited Fremantle and our middle son was searching for pizza in Fremantle, we wanted one solid place that works for our whole family. Da Napoli Pizzaria was that place for us.
While they have multiple locations (in Leederville and Como) this is a review of our visit to the Fremantle location, which shares a space with Republic of Fremantle Distillery. We love that it’s not a standard family pizza restaurant, so we wanted to break down what that actually means for families like ours.
Quick overview: why we chose Da Napoli for pizza in Fremantle
- Location: West End of Fremantle, inside the Republic of Fremantle Distillery space (Near the downtown area and walkable from our hotel)
- Style: Neapolitan pizza cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven – not a typical takeaway pizza joint.
- Vibe: Casual but slightly more grown-up than a typical pizza shop (housed in the Republic of Fremantle Distillery dining room).
- Family suitability: Works well for school-age kids and teens; may feel less ideal for toddlers
- What stood out: Watching the pizza get made from our table from stretched, topped, and slid into the oven was part of the experience. Our boys enjoyed the mocktails, and the pizza was light enough that we could share several different varieties

We picked Da Napoli that night because we wanted to try authentic Italian cuisine without a formal sit-down Italian restaurant experience. The shared distillery setup offered something a bit different, and the Neapolitan pizza style meant we could order multiple pizzas and share them across the table.
Where is Da Napoli in Fremantle, and what is the setup like?
Da Napoli Fremantle sits on Pakenham Street in Fremantle’s West End, inside the Republic of Fremantle Distillery building. The setup is straightforward: Da Napoli handles all the food, and Republic of Fremantle handles the drinks.
Here’s what you need to know about the space:
- Address area: Pakenham Street, Fremantle West End
- Parking: Street parking nearby; paid lots within walking distance
- Walking distance: About 10 minutes from Fishing Boat Harbour, 5 minutes from Fremantle town centre
- Seating style: Indoor tables, outdoor tables, some bar-style seating, casual layout
- Opening hours: Dinner service from late afternoon into the night (confirm current hours before booking) and we would recommend booking ahead (visit the Da Napoli website for details)
The venue has an industrial feel. It’s a working distillery with pizza ovens, which creates a different atmosphere compared to a standard family pizza place.
Because it’s a distillery setting, the vibe leans more adult. Older kids and teens will feel comfortable here. Families with toddlers might find it less convenient.

What is Neapolitan pizza, and what makes Da Napoli different?
Neapolitan pizza gets its name from Naples, Italy, where the tradition of pizza-making goes back centuries. The defining features are a thin base, a puffy crust edge (called a cornicione), and quick cooking in a wood-fired oven.
Here’s how Neopolitan Pizza works:
- The dough is spread very thin
- Toppings are kept simple and light
- Pizzas bake at around 450-500°C for just a few minutes
- The result is a crispy outer crust with a soft, slightly charred centre
This cooking method produces a distinctive taste that differs from topping-heavy takeaway-style pizzas. The crust folds easily, the base is light, and you can comfortably eat more slices than you’d expect.
At Da Napoli, the focus is on this traditional Neapolitan approach. The pizzas are designed for sharing rather than one heavily-topped pizza per person. For our family of five, ordering three different pizzas worked better than each person choosing their own.

We enjoyed tasting multiple different signature pizzas at Da Napoli, Fremantle
Da Napoli’s story in Western Australia
Da Napoli brings Naples-style pizza to several suburbs across Western Australia. The brand operates locations in:
- Fremantle (inside Republic of Fremantle Distillery)
- Como
- Leederville
Each location follows the same Neapolitan pizza approach, with the Fremantle venue offering the unique distillery pairing. Check the Da Napoli website to find the closest location.
The passion behind Da Napoli connects to traditional Italian pizza knowledge passed down through generations of pizzaiolos. This heritage from Naples informs everything from how they stretch the dough by hand to their cooking methods.
If you’re staying in different parts of Perth during your journey, you might spot the other locations. But this review focuses on the Fremantle place, which has become worth a visit for us when we’re housesitting in Perth.
Our family’s meal: what we ordered and how much food was enough
Our family of five includes two adults and three boys aged 16, 14, and 11. Here’s exactly what we ordered:
Starters
- Carbonara bites
- Truffle arancini bites
Both starters came as shareable portions (5 pieces each – perfect for our family). The carbonara bites disappeared quickly, and the truffle arancini gave everyone a couple of bites each.
Da Napoli Pizzas (we shared all three)
- Diavola: Tomato base with meat, peppers, and olives
- Tartufina: Cream base with potatoes, ham, and herbs
- Sofia Loren: Cream base with Italian sausage, crumbled sausage, and greens
Dessert
- Nutella Angioletti (fried dough balls drizzled with Nutella sauce)

Not a dessert pizza, but a dessert our youngest still asks to go back to Da Napoli in Fremantle for!
How much food was this for five people?
Three Neapolitan pizzas plus two starters plus one dessert was enough for our whole family. We had a couple of slices left over, which we took with us for breakfast the next morning.
The menu offers a lot of signature options, and it was hard to choose, but there really is no wrong choice. We went with a mix of tomato-based and cream-based to give everyone variety.
What each kid thought
- Oldest (16): Appreciated the different topping combinations and liked having both cream-based and tomato-based options to try
- Middle (14): Loved the tomato sauce and meat on the Diavola; also gave both starters high marks
- Youngest (11): Ate the pizza happily but was most focused on the desserts; asked if we could order more Nutella Angioletti
Drinks: mocktails for kids and specialty gin cocktails for adults
Because Da Napoli shares the venue with Republic of Fremantle Distillery, all drink orders go through the distillery bar. This setup brings a few options you won’t find at a standard pizza restaurant.
For kids and non-drinkers
- Several mocktail options on the menu
- More interesting than standard soft drinks
- Our boys enjoyed trying something that felt more “grown-up” without any alcohol
For adults who drink
- Republic of Fremantle distils its own gin on-site
- Specialty cocktails featuring their house gin pair well with pizza
- If you love a good gin, this is a moment to try something local
Atmosphere, service, and how family-friendly it felt
The atmosphere at Da Napoli Fremantle sits somewhere between a casual pizza restaurant and a bar. Here’s what we noticed:
- Crowd mix: Adults, couples, and a few families with older kids
- Noise level: Enough background sound that kids won’t feel out of place; conversation at the table was still easy
- Ordering process: We were seated by the staff and had table service for both food and drinks
- Lighting: Industrial and relaxed; not too dim, not too bright
For families with school-age kids and teens, the place feels comfortable. Our boys didn’t look out of place, and there was no sense that we needed to rush.
That said, the distillery setting means there’s bar traffic throughout the evening. Families with toddlers might find it less convenient, as there is no play area, and the space is designed more for adults.
The time we spent there felt relaxed rather than hurried.
Prices, value, and how to plan a visit
What we spent
For two starters, three pizzas, one dessert, and drinks for five people came to a mid-range price for a memorable night out in Fremantle. This is a high value-to-price ratio for the evening out and the experience. There’s plenty to do in Fremantle either before or after your visit.
Rough price guide
- Pizzas: Approximately $22-30 each
- Starters: Approximately $12-18 each
- Desserts: Approximately $12-16 each
- Mocktails: Approximately $10-14 each
- Cocktails: Approximately $18-24 each
Prices are approximate—check the current menu before visiting.
Booking and timing tips
- Reserve ahead: Especially on Friday and Saturday nights or during school holidays on DaNapoli.com.au
- Best time for families: Earlier in the evening (around 5:30 – 6:00 pm) for a quieter setting
- Allow enough time: About 90 minutes for starters, mains, and dessert – Don’t rush.
- Mid-week visits: Quieter if you’re flexible on days
Takeaway option
If tables are full, takeaway is available. Keep in mind that Neapolitan pizza is best eaten fresh—the thin crust can soften if it sits too long. If you’re staying nearby, it travels well for short distances.
Dietary notes
Vegetarian pizza options are available. Check the current menu for gluten-free base availability and other dietary accommodations.

Our take on the Best Pizza Experience in Fremantle
For our family of five, Da Napoli in Fremantle will be out go on our to-do list for our next visit to Fremantle.
The pizza experience here brings something different from what we usually get in Australia—that thin, wood-fired style straight from Italy’s traditions. Our boys still talk about the Nutella dessert and the mocktails, which says something about how the whole meal stuck with them.
