To be clear, we love Las Vegas just for the sights and sounds. We don’t often feel the need to pay for extras – simply wandering the hotels and seeing everything going on is plenty to keep us entertained for a visit. So, here’s a list of some of the best free things (and paid ad-ons) to do with kids in Las Vegas.

Highlights of a family-friendly trip to Las Vegas

Stay at Planet Hollywood (on the strip)
On our first visit to Las Vegas, we stayed at Thousand Trails, Las Vegas in our RV – a common stop for families with a Thousand Trails membership.
We stayed at a hotel with friends, a 20-minute drive from the strip, on our second visit. It meant that every time we wanted to “Experience Las Vegas,” we had to drive in and pay for parking. This was fine since our goal was to spend most of our time with friends and see the Las Vegas strip a little bit.
On our third visit, we decided to park our RV in storage and stayed at Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas strip.
Staying at Planet Hollywood ended up being a great choice for our family (and my parents, who were visiting with us). It’s located mid-strip (about a 35-minute walk south to Mandalay Bay on the South end of the strip and a 45-minute walk north to Circus Circus or Sahara on the north end of the strip), offering easy walkability to shows and hotels in both directions, allowing us time to explore everything on the strip easily.
While you can stay at any hotel with your family, we found a few that seem a bit more geared to families and have budget-friendly rates.
If you get the opportunity, and you don’t mind driving and parking from a neighborhood to see the stip, you might consider housesitting with Trusted Housesitters in Las Vegas.

We visited Planet Hollywood in December when the evenings were cool. It was comfortable weather for us to put on hoodies at our hotel, walk over to the evening display at the Bellagio, and after a short walk, be right back at our hotel after the water show. Since it was December, we weren’t going to be using any of the resorts’ pools (most resorts have their pools closed through the winter) so that wasn’t a factor in our decision of which hotel to choose.
Planet Hollywood also has various family-friendly restaurants, ensuring that even the pickiest eaters will find something they love. The Miracle Mile Shopping Mall (accessible from Planet Hollywood without having to go outside) offers a range of stores to browse and enjoy.
Explore the Bellagio Gardens (on the Strip)
The gardens, located inside the Bellagio Hotel, are a beautiful and peaceful oasis amid the bustling Strip. The gardens feature a stunning display of flowers, trees, and plants, and are transformed seasonally to ensure there’s always something new to see.
When we were there in December, the entire display was set up as a Christmas theme with so many beautiful flowers and displays to look at.

We loved the Bellagio Fountain show every night
No visit to Las Vegas is complete without experiencing the Bellagio Fountains. This iconic attraction performs its spectacular water show from the afternoon to midnight, with mesmerizing performances every 15-30 minutes. The water shoots up to 460 feet in the air, creating a breathtaking display that captivates audiences of all ages.
The fountains are a display of water and lights, with over 1,000 nozzles and 4,500 lights all synced to music that’s different for each show. The show is completely free and is a great activity for families with kids.
Discover Indoor Amusement – Circus, Circus (on the Strip)
Adventuredome at Circus Circus is a must-visit for families looking for an indoor amusement park in Las Vegas. This five-acre park is packed with attractions that cater to all ages, from thrilling rides to family-friendly activities. One of the highlights is the Canyon Blaster, the world’s only indoor double-loop, double-corkscrew roller coaster.
Adventuredome also features the NebulaZ ride, offering aerial spins and breathtaking views. The park also includes a classic arcade area with unlimited play and family-friendly midway games where you can win prizes.
When it’s time for a break, you can enjoy dining options like pizza and refreshments, all while being entertained by clown shows that add to the festive atmosphere.
Take a Gondola Ride at The Venetian (on the Strip)
We enjoyed watching the gondolas float by. Our boys weren’t too interested in actually riding.
One of the most enchanting experiences in Las Vegas is taking a gondola ride at The Venetian. These scenic 15-minute rides allow you to enjoy the beauty of the Venetian Resort, complete with gondolas and blue sky-painted ceilings. Each gondola can accommodate up to four passengers, making it a perfect activity for families.
You can choose between indoor and outdoor gondola rides, both of which feature singing gondoliers who enhance the experience with their melodic voices.
If you’re not interested in paying for a gondola ride, a visit to the Venetian to watch the gondola rides is just as good. Most hotels on the strip have a shopping mall in them which we enjoyed wandering through as we took in the experience that the hotels and casinos created.
Create Custom M&M’s
Creating custom M&M’s is a fun and interactive experience for kids and adults alike. At the M&M’s store, you can use a personal printer to create your own M&M’s, choosing from a variety of colors and logos. This hands-on activity is sure to be a hit with the little ones.
The store itself is a 13,000-square-foot flagship location featuring four uniquely themed floors. Beyond just candy, you’ll find a variety of merchandise, making it a delightful place to explore and shop.
We considered skipping this activity since our kids have been to M&M stores in several tourist trap locations, but we decided to visit it anyway to look around since we were going to be walking by as we explored the hotels.
Enjoy Family-Friendly Shows
Las Vegas is renowned for its entertainment, and there are plenty of family-friendly shows to enjoy. Some of the most popular ones include the Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Mystere,’ and multiple magic shows. These performances cater to all ages, ensuring that everyone in the family has a great time.
Another fantastic option is Nathan Burton’s Magic Show, which is perfect for families with kids (we’ve been twice). The intimate theatre setting allows you to feel like you’re right in on the action, making it a memorable experience for the whole family.

Laugh with Popovich Comedy Pet Theater (Planet Hollywood / Miracle Mile Shops on the Strip)
For a heartwarming and entertaining show, head to Popovich Comedy Pet Theater. This performance combines comedy with pet tricks, featuring rescued dogs, cats, parrots, and even a miniature horse performing stunts. It’s a delightful show that kids will love.

With convenient show times that aren’t too late into the evening, it’s perfect for families with young kids. The fast-paced show, filled with cheesy humor, will keep everyone entertained from start to finish.
See David Copperfield with your family
David Copperfield is not only an icon of magic, but he has a regular schedule of shows at the MGM in Las Vegas. The website lists tickets as for children aged 5 and over, so you can guarantee this will be an amazing show to remember from someone that your kids will talk about seeing for years to come.

While “Downtown Las Vegas” and the “Las Vegas Strip” often get confused by someone who has never visited Las Vegas, they are a few miles from each other (with not much to see between the two – some fast food restaurants, a few plazas, and a gas station or two).
