What to buy someone who just bought an RV:

Someone who just bought an RV is often more difficult to buy for. You may not know which accessories they’ve already purchased, and they may not even know what they want or need for their RV. They’re probably just excited to have gone through the process of choosing an RV.

We would recommend a gift card for your local RV dealer, walmart, or Amazon. While these ideas may seem like generic “tiny home” housewarming gifts, they will probably be the most practical.

Practical Gifts to Enhance RV Life

While looking for the perfect gift ideas for the RV owner in your life, consider how they use their RV and how that might affect what makes a great RV gift idea. Do they use their RV for:

• Full-time RV Travel (Space is limited and best used for necessities and practical purposes)
• Camping trips now and then throughout the year (a fun gag gift or rv-themed decor might be a great addition since they just need their RV space for clothes and camping essentials for their summer camping trips)
• A Seasonal RV Site (where they are stationary and may have room for large, comfortable camping chairs, or less-portable outdoor RV space decor)

RV Levelers help get your RV level – imagine spending a week in your house while it is off-level. Everything is affected, from how you cook to how you sleep, even if it’s only off by an inch!

This Levelmatepro Bluetooth leveler can help you know (down to 1/4 inch) if your RV is level or if you need to roll just a little further into those leveling blocks. It also accounts for the cantilever effect of having a slide, so you’re not setting up level and then getting off-level when your slide goes out.

It’s one of the best RV gifts for people who like RV camping remotely (remotely without hookups is called boondocking), where they won’t pull into a level campsite.

Wheel chocks go between your wheels to keep even the slightest rocking motion to a minimum. If you’ve ever felt “sea legs” from being on a boat, the movement in an RV can have a similar effect. These are most effective for travel trailers, fifth wheels, and other towable campers. They won’t work for a typical motorhome with a wheel at each corner.

Whether something needs to be tightened or loosened, or whatever you do with these things, it is handy to have everything in one place when you need it.

Be sure that a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is meant for RVs since RV tire pressure can differ from a TPMS for a passenger vehicle.

RV leveling blocks serve multiple purposes. First, for leveling the RV if you need to get one side up a bit higher than your leveling ramps will go, but also if your wheel is on soft sand or mud to spread out the footprint, for your stabilizer jacks on a friend’s driveway to avoid causing damage, and once-in-a-while as a path to get out of a mudhole that has developed over your camping trip from the rain.

We almost left ours behind when we started RVing, but this folding step stool has saved our bacon more than once, from being able to reach laundry on a line, grabbing a dish from the highest shelf of a cupboard, to cleaning that ONE unsightly bird dropping from the pigeon we hit on the road while RVing in Baja – you’d like to think he would have flown away… a story for another day.

 

Practical RV Kitchen Gifts

An RV kitchen is not all that different from your home kitchen, except on a smaller scale, so we love RV kitchen gifts that serve multiple purposes to save space and give us flexibility. A folding step stool, for instance, can also be a seat around the fire, but don’t get too deep into nesting bowls or collapsible measuring cups unless you’re sure that the recipient enjoys cooking in their RV kitchen. 

There’s no point in gifting them something to stay unused in the RV since they never turn on their RV oven while they cook over their fire pit or grill outside ever night.

We don’t have a cutlery drawer in our RV, so this is the most practical way for us to organize our cutlery.

Practical Safety Gift Ideas for RV Owners

RV owners know that a flat tire or a broken-down car can either be a minor setback or the end of a road trip, and the difference may depend on the gear they have on hand. A roadside rescue kit, a set of pylons, a spare flashlight, or a first aid kit are some of the best gifts that will hopefully never be needed but can be a camping trip saver and keep the RV owner in your life thanking you.

Roadside Safety Toolkit

Never worry about where you’ve left your keys with a keypad door lock. We just put this on recently, and it’s made a world of difference for us to be sure that our RV is secure when we leave (the keyfab allows us to “double check” as we’re driving away) but since everyone in our family has the door code, we don’t have to worry about who has the key and who was holding the key last.

If you like camping remotely but also want to go into town now and then and leave your trailer unsupervised, then a trailer hitch lock can stop someone from hitching up and driving away with your trailer

Learned this one the hard way after our $300 weight distribution hitch was taken from the back of our truck while parked in a public parking lot. Now we have this hitch lock.

For the hikers on your list, it’s always helpful to have a whistle and a compass if you’re hiking your favorite National Park, State Park, or backwoods trail.

A way to inflate your tires is essential on the road, both for safety and maximizing your gas mileage, but this compressor we ordered recently is USB Chargeable, so we don’t have to run power from wherever to our tires. We can charge the USB charger overnight and then walk around our trailer and truck to make sure all tires are properly inflated.

We weren’t sure that a battery-powered tire inflator (especially rechargeable) would have enough strength for our 80PSI Trailer tires, but this one works really well.

 

Outdoor RV space gifts

 

From zero-gravity lounge chairs for around the campfire to foldable camping chairs that save space, from solar-powered outdoor lights to smokeless campfires, outdoor gifts for RV travelers are a great way for us to enjoy some space outside of the RV and make the most of conversations with friends about our RV lifestyle.

Outdoor rugs are perfect for laying on top of rough gravel, sand, or even just on a paved campsite to make it more comfortable to go in and out of the RV barefoot.

If you love campfires but hate the smoke, the solo stove claims to be smokeless. From personal experience, we’ve seen friends with solo stoves, and once the fire is going, it’s relatively good at reducing smoke, but while the fire is starting up, there can be just as much smoke as any other fire, so take the claim with a grain of salt (or stay back until you see the fire roaring).

My preference (if you have the propane to spare) is a propane fire pit, which is smokeless, doesn’t require wood, and starts every time.

We haven’t exactly figured out why, but when friends pull out this double chair, it becomes the seat that everyone fights over. We don’t have one, but we’ve talked about it multiple times – maybe it just makes better sense for our boys to be separated!

Solar-powered lights that double as flashlights are a great addition to nearly any RV owner’s gift list since they serve multiple purposes, don’t use electricity or batteries that can run out, and make great ambiance for hanging out in the evening around the picnic table.

Super compact and easy to take with you to the beach, these “inflatable” couches simply catch the wind and fill up like a ziploc bag you inflated and popped in the highschool cafeteria. They’ve very comfortable, compact, and easy to assemble for 2 people to sit on someone to lay down.

I had no idea how often we would use our standup paddle board, but now that we have one, we seem to find opportunities to use it at National Parks, campgrounds, remote lakes, beaches in Baja, and downtown rivers.
